PHOTO MANIPULATION

Photo Manipulation Assignment

In week three of class I realized just how old photo manipulation really is, if it wasn’t for this class I would still be contemplating how Abraham Lincoln maintained such good posture. This photography class has opened my mind to new and old possibilities. I keep asking myself the question; is photo manipulation art? At first I was quiet firm in regards to my opinion but, as I read the discussions posted of my other classmates I’m not so sure that I know anymore. While going through the thinking process of this assignment and deciding what photos I would use, I thought of my family and those closest to me.  The first photo I included is a Picture of my Mother and brother embracinging each other with a large lake in the background. I decided to remove the man sitting in the background from the original, whiten my mother’s teeth, added a glow effect, and made her a little thinner. The changes are subtle but if you really examine the before and after photos you will notice the difference. The second photo is of my lovely cat who is trying to claim attention by lying down on my work desk. In this photo I flipped the picture, fixed the lighting ever so slightly and put in a spider web for fun. All in all the end result  is art because I had to go through a thought process, which involved deciding what changes would be made and my mother loves the photo now, so I have also added value.
